Botulinum Toxin Aftercare
Immediate (First 4 Hours)
-
Stay Upright: Remain seated or standing for at least 4 hours post-treatment. Avoid bending forward or lying down flat, as this can cause the toxin to migrate.
-
Avoid Pressure & Touching: Do not touch, rub, or press on the treated areas.
-
Facial Exercises: Gently exercise your facial muscles (e.g., frowning, smiling, or raising your eyebrows) during the first day to help the treatment settle into the targeted muscles.
-
Avoid Heat: Stay out of direct sunlight, sunbeds, hot tubs, saunas, and hot baths or showers for at least 4 hours.
-
Sleep Position: Avoid sleeping for the first 4 hours. When you do go to bed, try to sleep on your back to avoid putting pressure on the treated areas.
The First 24 to 48 Hours
-
No Strenuous Exercise: Refrain from heavy workouts or intense physical activity for at least 24 hours (or as advised by your practitioner). Exercise increases blood circulation and muscle contraction, which can spread the toxin and reduce its effectiveness.
-
Go Makeup-Free: Avoid applying makeup to the treated area for 24 hours. The pressure from applying or rubbing makeup can displace the toxin.
-
Avoid Alcohol: Do not consume alcohol for at least 24 hours after treatment, as alcohol thins the blood and increases the risk of bruising.
-
Avoid Facial & Skin Treatments: Refrain from facials, facial massages, exfoliating scrubs, or dermal filler procedures for at least 24 hours (and professional massages on treated areas for several days).
What to Expect (Normal Reactions)
It is completely normal to experience mild reactions immediately after your procedure. These typically resolve quickly:
-
Redness, Tenderness & Mild Swelling: Common at the injection sites; usually subsides within 24 hours.
-
Bruising: May occur around the injection points. You may apply a cold pack gently to the area for relief. Any bruising generally resolves within 2 weeks.
If you take routine medications that increase bruising risk, please consult your practitioner before resuming them.
