Dermal Filler Aftercare
Immediate (First 6- 12 Hours)
-
Avoid Touching: Do not touch or rub the treated area for at least 6 hours following your procedure. After 6 hours, you may gently wash the area with soap and water.
-
Caution with Makeup: Take a break from makeup for the first 6 hours. After this time, mineral-based makeup can be applied gently.
-
Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 12 hours post-treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.
-
Avoid Exercise: Avoid strenuous physical activity and workouts for at least 12 hours.
-
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help support your body and keep the tissue hydrated.
First Few Days and Weeks
-
Avoid Extreme Heat & Cold: Do not expose the treated area to intense heat (such as sunbathing, tanning beds, saunas, or hot tubs) or extreme cold until initial swelling and redness have completely resolved.
-
Avoid Ice Packs directly: Do not apply extreme cold or direct ice packs to the area for 2 weeks. If you experience discomfort or swelling, a mild cool compress may be applied gently instead.
-
Pain Relief: If you experience mild discomfort, Paracetamol can be taken. Avoid aspirin or similar blood-thinning anti-inflammatory medications where possible, as these can increase bleeding and bruising at the injection site.
-
Cold Sore Risk: If you have a history of facial cold sores, needle punctures can occasionally trigger an outbreak. Contact your practitioner if you notice early symptoms.
What to Expect (Normal Reactions)
-
Immediate Reactions: Redness, swelling, tenderness, and an itching sensation at the injection site are completely normal initial responses. These temporary effects usually settle within a few days.
-
Swelling & Settling (1–2 Weeks): Swelling can occasionally persist for up to a week, during which time the area may appear somewhat uneven. The final outcome should not be judged immediately, as dermal filler can take 2 to 4 weeks to fully settle and integrate into the tissue.
-
Palpable Texture (Lumps & Bumps): It is completely normal for the treated area to feel slightly firm, lumpy, or bumpy beneath the skin for a few weeks or even months as the filler integrates. The key standard is that these lumps should not be visible to the eye.
-
Longevity & Maintenance: Dermal filler gradually breaks down and dissolves naturally over time. Many clients opt for a top-up or follow-up evaluation within 4 to 6 months.
